OERBM means Oesterreichische RadBotInnen Meisterschaft (Austrian cycle messenger championship). This event brings together people from different European countries, but are open to everyone. The event I accompanied was a prechampionship event. I myself experienced an event like this for the first time an wanted to capture the emotions, the empathy between the riders and the uniqueness of such an event, which is mainly organised by volunteers. The cycle messenger "way-of-life" is usually not brought to our attention, unless we need them- But this event showed that there is more to this. The low-paid job has its future in eco-friendliness and is an option especially for bigger cities to avoid more pollution. Who are the people behind the scenes? This is an ongoing series. I aim to accompany future championship, document it in different cities, including to ride along over a longer period of time. The spirit of the community that can be found here is something very special. Although you usually are on your own, while riding, the community is there and ready to support if needed. The competition though is friendly, but requires real athletic skills. As you can see in the photos it was extremely hot these days, which was an extra challenge for everyone taking part. That is why the organisers made up some fun extra challenges to bring some refreshment.
