Carne-val: bodies exhibited, desired, consumed. The scenery is São Paulo's street carnival: 5 days of parades, dancing, consumption of legal and illegal substances, meetings in an almost orgiastic atmosphere. Traditionally other Brazilian cities are the assigned place to this event: Rio de Janeiro, Salvador and Olinda, just to name a few, but in the last years São Paulo's street carnival is standing out in the Brazilian context as a new benchmark. In 2020 São Paulo, for the first time ever, hosted the largest street carnival in the country, 15 million people have filled the streets for this event. In few days 644 blocks marched, from the most traditional Samba and Axé up to Punk, Funk, Rock, Sertanejo and Techno. The shows were mostly concentrated in the central area of the city even though there have been events that animated the outskirts of the Brazilian megalopolis. This event has more and more a street and popular character, accessible to everyone, far from "Sambodromo" where the prestigious schools of Samba paraded and where there is an entrance ticket to pay . Let's wait until the next year for the edition of São Paulo's street carnival, where before diving into the crowd, you can wear a mask or even remove it completely.
