The work Senseland is a journey into my past, my inner world, and my feelings and memories. I grew up in the Sense district of the canton of Fribourg, but I haven't lived there for over twenty years.
The Sense district is a very special place. It is the only purely German-speaking district in the canton of Fribourg. While most people in the neighbouring German-speaking canton of Bern are Protestant, most people in the canton of Fribourg are Catholic. The dialect is unique, too. When Gaddafi once threatened to divide Switzerland into German-, French- and Italian-speaking parts, the inhabitants of the Sense district said, 'Go ahead; only we will be left.' I grew up in this isolated area and was an oddball there too, not even belonging to the oddballs. This suited me perfectly and shaped me.
