Day at the Park

This image is part of an ongoing project taking portraits of community members here in Minnesota. A lot of my personal work centers around the exploration of sub-communities and subcultures here in the Twin Cities. Subcultures where people gather to form groups, are based on commonalities in interests, and sometimes simply in identity. The need to be welcomed and invited into peoples' lives as a photographer and documenter requires trust and being able to build relationships. Many of my projects require spending time with people prior to taking portraits so that the process feels authentic, not just in relational interactions but also in capturing everyday lives and how people live and thrive within their present and chosen environments.
